Hanging with Rob and Big ... and Tyler

It's no secret that my DVR is one of my best friends. I don't know how I ever lived without it. It's wonderful to select a show and forget about it. I don't have to rush home to catch prime time shows - they are waiting for me when I get home.

I watch way too much television - I admit it. But I see no harm in unwinding from my life. I see television shows, movies and music as stress relief - I forget about everything in the shows I watch. What's wrong with that?

For a few months I've had a secret addiction. I've been hanging with Rob, Big, Drama, Meaty and Mini-Horse under the cover of darkness. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm completely addicted to Rob and Big reruns. If you have not watched it, please give it a chance. I can't even tell you the last time a television show has made me laugh until I cry, but there are several episodes (saved on my DVR of course) that bring me to tears. This show is the greatest, and I'm so sad that it's over!

My decision to watch Rob and Big late at night was not due to shame, but I've seen a few things that I don't want to explain to a 5-year-old just yet. It's one of my guilty pleasures, one could say.

I've seen so many of the episodes that I can't just "record all" any longer. I now have to select to record the ones I haven't seen. One Saturday I just HAD to watch the rerun of the "Big Bob" episode. It was on. I was home. I started laughing out loud, and of course Tyler comes to see what I find so funny.

"What are you watching, mom?" he asks.

"It's a tv show called Rob and Big," I reply.

Tyler, meet Rob and Big. Rob and Big, meet Tyler. Open the flood gates!

After I let the cat out of the bag, I became a little less guarded about when I watch. There's one episode where Rob and Big meet Spider-Man. It is the funniest scene I've seen so far. And, Tyler, THE Spider-Man fan, can't resist watching it with me.

Now I tend to watch most episodes whenever I want, and occasionally Tyler stops by to check in with my favorite tv friends. I didn't think he was paying that much attention until one day when he came up to me...

"Hey, mom. Who do I look like?"

"Tyler in a t-shirt that's too big?" I replied.

"No. I'm Big Black!" he said.

Priceless. :)
